Fujifilm Dimatix has announced the release of a new SAMBA cartridge for use with Dimatix Material Printers. It has been delayed rather than planned, but it has been released and supplied since August. However, due to the impact of COVID-19, supply quantities are currently limited.
Cartridges on their own can be thought of as reduced printheads with fewer nozzles. These cartridges are not suitable for mass production as they can be used with Dimatix Material Printers (DMPs), and can use very small volumes of test fluids (sometimes very expensive test fluids), making them an excellent tool for fluid and application development. Combining the jet design of DMP SAMBA cartridges with the jet design of the high-performance, scalable Samba G3L printhead provides a path from R&D to mass production that is invaluable to the growth of functional printing.
Based on the Samba G3L, these new cartridges feature the same internal nozzle design, jet characteristics, and ink drop volume as the Samba G3L printhead, enabling easy transition from R&D applications to commercial production with the Samba G3L printhead. The default ink droplet volume is 2.4 pL, and ultra-fine line widths can be achieved even at a single dot size of 30 μm. It has 12 nozzles and the default resolution is 75 dpi. Includes a separate 1.5 mL reservoir that researchers can fill with their own liquid. Like the Samba, the new cartridges are best suited for relatively low-viscosity liquids in the 4-8 cP range.
Until now, Fujifilm Dimatix has provided its customers with universal cartridges for use with DMPs in sizes 1 to 10 pL. This gave them a good idea of how their fluids work. However, with advances in engineering and manufacturing, Fujifilm Dimatix has been able to scale down the Samba's ability to fit cartridge sizes so that customers can better understand how Samba's fluids will perform on production print heads.
Current Samba cartridges mimic the G3L printhead, with plans to release a Samba G5L version and Samba GMA cartridges in the future.
